EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Product Description Healthcare providers, consumers, researchers and policy makers are inundated with unmanageable amounts of information, including evidence from healthcare research. It has become impossible for all to have the time and resources to find, appraise and interpret this evidence and incorporate it into healthcare decisions. Cochrane Reviews respond to this challenge by identifying, appraising and synthesizing research-based evidence and presenting it in a standardized format, published in The Cochrane Library (www.thecochranelibrary.com). The Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions contains methodological guidance for the preparation and maintenance of Cochrane intervention reviews. Written in a clear and accessible format, it is the essential manual for all those preparing, maintaining and reading Cochrane reviews. Many of the principles and methods described here are appropriate for systematic reviews applied to other types of research and to systematic reviews of interventions undertaken by others. It is hoped therefore that this book will be invaluable to all those who want to understand the role of systematic reviews, critically appraise published reviews or perform reviews themselves. |
CUSTOMER REVIEWS (Average Customer Rating: 5.0 based on 1 review)
| A brilliant - and crucial - update, beautifully presented by Meow (Macao) 5 Stars December 18, 2008 Until this book was published, the only way to access the Cochrane Handbook was to view it online. I don't know about you, but it is much more difficult for me to concentrate on a complex topic when I'm reading something about it online, or reading from a pile of printed-out pages. Having already lost many good hours of my life attempting to use the Handbook in those newfangled ways, it was literally a delight to open the lovely, bright hardbound book, and browse through it this way during a recent transatlantic airplane ride. Not only is it vastly easier to use, but the writing is very fresh and clear, which is important since this 2008 update of the Handbook was quite a significant one. In short, if you are working on a Cochrane review (or any systematic review or meta-analysis), or if you are just interested on an intellectual basis, you will find this new edition of the Cochrane Handbook to be indispensable. Buy it.

When used in tandem, systematic reviews and meta-analysis-- two distinct but highly compatible approaches to research synthesis-- form a powerful, scientific approach to analyzing previous studies. But to see their full potential, a social work researcher must be versed in the foundational processes underlying them. This pocket guide to Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis illuminates precisely that practical groundwork. In clear, step-by-step terms, the authors explain how to...
